Where has the week gone? It is Wednesday already. I’ve done my first few days back at work! Gosh it was hard getting up on Monday morning. I have been in such a lazy morning person over the summer. I absolutely love making a coffee and taking it back up to bed. I sit with the TV on low and rifle through my phone catching up with what has been happening whilst I have been asleep. I must stop looking at my phone before bed. It’s a nasty habit. I’m going to try this month to not go on any social media sites, or read any blogs once I’ve gotten under the duvet. If anyone has any tips I would welcome them because I know I won’t be able to stick to it! I’m going to try to get back into reading at night. I read at all times but there is just something about reading in bed! I’ve just finished Apple Tree Yard, by Louise Doughty. I really enjoyed it. There were parts where I couldn’t put it down. It was one of those books that made me feel quite anxious as I turned the pages because I didn’t know what was going to happen next. I’d like to watch the series now… did anyone see it?
Work has been good. I’ve settled into a new routine quite quickly and I’m enjoying being back. It’s all new for me this year, new class, teacher and staff. But it’s been a really good first few days. The children have settled in well and that’s all that matters to me! This year’s work goals are to become a first aider, learn more Makaton and take the stairs instead of the lift when going to the top floor. Well I say top floor, its only 2 floors up! I like making goals in September. I feel that’s when my year starts as I work with an academic calendar. September is all about fresh starts, new ideas and being bright-eyed and bushy-tailed for at least 2 weeks. After that I’m on the countdown for half term! I have so many exciting things coming up in the next few months. I can’t wait to share it with you all, I’m going to have to try to not wish these next few weeks away. I have really loved walking to work and seeing the leaves start to fall from the trees. Autunm is coming guys!
There is one part of this time of year that I struggle with… the inevitable photographs that flood my news feed of adorable children starting their first day of school in their brand new shiny uniforms. Who doesn’t love these? Well me. I don’t love them. Of course I think they are lovely and I will give a few a like and a comment. But inside I feel a bit rubbish. I just sit and think what I’d give to have my boy standing in his uniform with his lunch box ready for his first day. I think about what would be in the lunch box and how much I would enjoy making whatever sandwiches he is in to that week. But then I breathe, by the end of the day week the news feed will be littered with other stuff and its over for another year. I know that it is only a picture of someone sharing their joy and that is something I do not begrudge. I guess sometimes I just wish it was me…
Does anyone have those moments when their worlds collide? By that I mean when two completely separate things that you love come together. Jakki and I were talking about this the other day. I have had a few of those moments and it’s happened again… Joe Sugg is doing Strictly Come Dancing! I am giddy about this. I love Joe Sugg. He is such a funny guy and he is one of my favourite YouTuber’s. I could sit and watch his videos for hours, in fact I do! I also absolutely love strictly come dancing. I eagerly wait for it every year. I truly believe in another life I was a dancer of some sort. I love the glitz, the glam, the sweaty practice sessions and of course the live music. I am hooked from week 1 and I plan my Saturday nights around it. So I could not believe it when it was announced Joe was doing it this year! I cannot wait. I am finding myself stalking his Instagram story for any updates or practices. Fingers crossed he does well and goes far. Jakki if he gets to Blackpool… we are going! The launch show is aired at the weekend.
I couldn’t let this week go by without talking about the Great British Bake Off. I made a point of being organised and ready to watch it on Tuesday night. Cake week! I almost cried when Paul Hollywood shook Rahul’s hand. His reaction was so endearing and sincere. I think he won over the hearts of the nation last night. I am not a baker. But I think over the next few months I am going to try to make a few things, I make excellent cornflake cakes, but that’s not baking is it really.
Thanks for reading.
